American Eagle Test Luger sn. 6671 .30 cal.  Central Powers Pistols p. 419, 420 Imperial Lugers p. 211, 212.  Between 1900-1908, Luger tests were conducted by the military of Belgium, Britain, Bulgaria, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and the US.  The holster is extremely rare, to be worn on the right side with the butt towards the rear.  About 1,000 were delivered to the Springfield Armoery in 1901 and were tested in Cuba and the Phillipines.  A few went to the Armory for ballistic and endurance tests. DWM obliged the small caliber concerns with a 1902 9mm variant tested by the army on 1904. An extremely few pistols have the German ordinance proof which looks like a flaming bomb and is found on the bottom of the mag.  This pistol has that mark. Extremely rare piece.
